The Nikon D400 is the anticipated and rumored replacement to the popular 12.3 megapixel Nikon D300.
Rumored specifications for the Nikon D400 include Nikon’s popular D-Movie mode, which is found on the Nikon D90 and Nikon D5000. The D90 and D5000 capture HD 720p video at 24 frames per second. If the Nikon D400 is to feature video capture, it would most likely be at least the quality that is found on the D90 and D5000. However, because the D400 would be a higher-end camera, it would not be unlikely for it to feature 1080p video capture, like the Canon 5D Mark II.
Recent rumors also suggest the presence of 16+ megapixel sensor in the Nikon D400. Most likely, the D400 would continue to feature the 1.5x crop format sensor found in the D300 and its predecessors.
Rumors further suggest that the Nikon D400 will be released in late Summer or Fall 2009.
